What is Somatic Movement Bodywork / The TRAGER® Approach?

Somatic Movement Bodywork helps release patterns of tension held in the brain. Gentle touch, soft weighing, rocking, jostling, and range of motion moves of the body and limbs induce a deep state of relaxation. The results are immediate and tangible improvements in circulation, flexibility, range of motion, and balance.
You will be shown how you can take the resulting sensations with you and recall & recreate them in everyday life.

The science: Somatic Movement Bodywork uses tensegrity of the muscular-skeletal system (kinetic chain) & neuromuscular interaction to stimulate neuroplasticity of the brain. The soothing, safe, and comfortable touch almost immediately switches the nervous system from sympathetic (fight and flight) to parasympathetic (rest and digest) resulting in a deep state of relaxation throughout body and mind. The gentle and safe movements create space in the joints to allow lubrication with synovial fluid and increase pain-free range of motion.

Benefits of Somatic Movement Bodywork

- Stress management through ultimate relaxation
- Improvement of circulation, lymph movement, and digestion
- Improvement of nerve function
- Stroke recovery
- Helps with symptoms of MS, Parkinson's, CP, and other neurological dysfunctions
- Injury prevention and rehabilitation for the client as well as the practitioner
- Due to its gentle nature this work can be practiced for a long time and therefore extend the professional life span of a therapist or practitioner.
- Helps improve effects of arthritis and rheumatoid arthritis
- Rehabilitation after illness or surgeries
- Improvement of flexibility and range of motion
- Helps improve effects of PTSD and other trauma related conditions (acute and chronic)
- Depression and anxiety
- Drug free pain management
- Somatic Movement Bodywork can be used on people of all ages but is especially beneficial with older people who experience restricted range of motion, stiffness, and balance issues.
- SMB uses no oils or lotions, so we can work effectively with people who are highly sensitive to lubricants or people who prefer or need to stay fully clothed.

- Best of all: The sessions are deeply relaxing, enjoyable, and pain free and the results are most of the time immediately noticeable and longer lasting than results from regular massage and body work sessions.

An Exploration of Basic Core Principles of Somatic Movement Bodywork (TRAGER® Introductory Workshop)

Dates: 2/19/2024, 5/20/2024, 8/19/2024

This class was featured in a 2 Day Workshop at the AMTA Texas Chapter Convention in League City, TX in April 2018 .

In this class we explore the power of Awareness, Focus, and Intention, basic core principles of Somatic Movement Bodywork.
We learn about a safe and effortless approach to self-care and the healing potential of mindful touch.

Movement & Body Awareness: We practice paying attention to our own bodies and how to move effortlessly to feel better.
Touch Awareness: We practice paying attention to what happens when we mindfully touch another person.
Integrating Awareness: We practice Awareness, Focus, and Intention to effortlessly feel and work better.

This class offers an insight into how and why the Somatic Movement Bodywork works.
From here you are able to make an informed decision whether this modality is for you to pursue further.
There is no obligation to sign up for the extended training after this class.

2) SME with Focus on Shoulders 6 hours $100
        (TRAGER® Introductory Workshop)

Date: TBA

We are taking a quick look at the anatomy of the shoulder girdle. We explore awareness of movements of the shoulders and the connections throughout the body. We start with our own body standing up, and continue with exploring movements of the shoulders of a partner standing up, and on the table.
For professionals who work hands-on with clients and patients this class explores new perspectives and dimensions of shoulder work.

3) SME with Focus on Hands and Feet 6 hours $100
        (TRAGER® Introductory Workshop)

Date: TBA

Hands and feet are extremely important in the life of a human being. Often we use them without paying much attention. In this class we explore giving and receiving soft and caring mindful touch to hands and feet.
After taking a quick look at the intricate anatomy of hands and feet we start by exploring movement in our own bodies. Then further explore in pairs in sitting position and on the table.

4) SME with Focus on Somatic Movement Awareness (Mentastics) 6 hours $100
        (TRAGER® Introductory Workshop)

Date: TBA

In this workshop we focus on exploring the feeling of movement in our own bodies. One of the most important basic principles of the TRAGER Approach is a form of moving meditation called "Mentastics". The movements are all comfortable, flowing, and good-feeling. We explore in our bodies how movements can feel lighter, softer, and gentler, and observe aspects of our being that often gets overlooked in our daily lives.
We explore how we can share Mentastics movements with a partner and achieve a more comfortable state of being together. The principles of Mentastics can easily be integrated in our daily lives making us feel more comfortable in our bodies. For Massage Therapists and other Body Workers, teaching clients how to use Mentastics can help improve and prolong the results of a session.

5) SME with Focus on Lower Back and Hips 6 hours $100

(TRAGER® Introductory Workshops)

Date: TBA

The focus and intent of the class is to learn aspects of movement in the low back and hips, the muscle connections and the subtle differences in movement, and to use basic principles of Somatic Movement Therapy to improve movement in the area. We are looking at the anatomy of movement of the lumbar area of the spine and the pelvic girdle and gently explore movements of the hips and lower extremities. Since the pelvic girdle is a main center of gravity, increased awareness of this area can help improve balance.
